This year you can also enjoy the traditional goose dinner at the Parkhotel Pörtschach. Carinthia is characterised by numerous customs - including a fragrant roast goose with red cabbage, potato dumplings, chestnuts and cranberries. The feast is served around St Martin's Day and signifies, among other things, the end of the farming year. The harvest had been harvested, the cattle from the mountain pastures had returned to the barn and the fresh grapes had been pressed.
St Martin's Day (11th of November) was also a day of interest. On this day, taxes were due and workers' employment contracts ended and the costs incurred were also paid in kind or in "geese".
